Bring any capable skills-aware coding agent

The skill is plain-text operational guidance, not a Codex-only API. It should be usable by Codex, Claude Code, Antigravity and other coding agents that can read skills, inspect a local workspace and run approved commands. Use each agent's native skill installer or give it the complete SKILL.md directly.

The $skill-installer and $sunofriend wording on the musician page is a copy-ready Codex doorway, not a requirement of Sunofriend.

Only a MacBook has been tested so far

Do not turn intended portability into a support claim. Windows and Linux are unverified. If you try either platform, report the agent, operating system, architecture, exact command and first blocker—or the successful path—so the SKILL.md and setup guidance can be made more compatible.

Editable musical interpretations

• experimental local broad vocals/instrumental separation on supported Apple-silicon macOS;
• authorised stems or vocals to MIDI;
• a balanced MIDI-derived listening WAV;
• GarageBand or another DAW handoff;
• comparing several transcription processes;
• key, BPM, tuning, alignment and bounded MIDI correction;
• matching or building local sample instruments.

Tasks outside its boundary

• exact multitrack recovery or narrow instrument-family separation;
• downloading music from a streaming link;
• lyrics or full-song generation;
• a guaranteed exact transcription;
• a human-approved release master;
• unapproved model, plugin or checkpoint downloads.

Be honest about local access

Hands-on setup requires a coding-agent surface that can inspect a local workspace and run approved commands. Codex, Claude Code and Antigravity are examples of the intended class, not a claim that every integration or operating system has been verified. A standard ChatGPT conversation may explain or troubleshoot, but must not claim that it installed software or touched local files.

Install instructions first

Install the repository's skills/sunofriend package using the agent's supported skill installer. Read the complete SKILL.md and its generated interface contract. Stop after confirming the skill is available; start app setup only in a second turn that explicitly invokes the installed skill. In Codex that invocation is $sunofriend.

Offer four human routes

Ask whether the person wants to try experimental local separation, has authorised separated audio parts, needs help exporting or obtaining stems, or wants the built-in copyright-safe synthetic demo. Inspect profile status before offering core four and never treat output as exact source recovery.

Use the focused beginner command

For agent-led work with stems, use sunofriend create PROJECT --out-dir FRESH. With no stems, use sunofriend demo --out-dir FRESH. When the person operates the TUI, prefer its one explicit Simple action. Retain the automatic, unreviewed and review-recommended labels.

Bind approval to exact source

Inspect first. If a new checkout is needed, ask before preparing only the source. Run the plan again, show the exact 40-character commit, and ask separately before installing that same commit. Apply never fetches or switches it. Optional AI models remain separate and are not a first-run requirement.

Teach the output boundary

Individual MIDI is editable. The combined MIDI is a proxy. The WAV contains rendered MIDI only; stems provide timing, horizon and level evidence but are not mixed into it. It is an interpretation, not reconstruction.

A stem is often a grouped submix

Do not describe every stem as one isolated instrument. Drums may include kick, snare, hats, toms, cymbals and percussion; keys and vocals can also contain several layers. An AI-separated stem is an estimate of a category, not the original studio track.

synchronised, top-level WAV stems

The website accepts no audio. The stable create, Simple and Studio song workflows still require synchronized top-level WAV stems. The experimental separator is a separate opt-in command that produces only broad vocals and complementary instrumental.

A separate CLI can inspect and prepare 2–64 already-separated, synchronized top-level audio parts. Use sunofriend source-doctor, then inspect sunofriend source-import-folder SOURCE_FOLDER --out-dir FRESH --rights-category CATEGORY --plan. Only remove --plan after the user has reviewed the plan.

That command produces immutable originals, canonical top-level PCM24 WAV stems, per-source and aggregate receipts, and one source-project manifest. Execution replans current inputs, so repeat the plan after any input, role-map or option change. It does not shift, pad, stretch, normalize or align files, prove a downbeat, separate a finished mix, or create MIDI.

A role map is a JSON file path keyed by exact filename. Never silently accept missing origin evidence: explain and ask before adding --accept-unconfirmed-origin. Preserve composite drums for S2. Do not invent an observed pads role; use strings only for a genuinely string-like sustained part.

Offer two stems by default or four by explicit opt-in

sunofriend-separate can now produce broad vocals, complementary instrumental and a reconstruction diagnostic from one authorised finished mix on Apple-silicon macOS. It is a separate public alpha entry point, not yet a Simple/TUI button. When the installed SCNet profile reports public_opt_in, the explicit core-four-stems-v1 scope instead estimates vocals, drums, bass and grouped other.

Plan setup and the song first. Ask separately before the pinned model/runtime download and before audio execution. Keep every output unreviewed until the musician compares the source, every declared role and reconstruction. Never infer musical preference from automated checks.

Do not promise recovered studio multitracks or clean instrument isolation. Offer drums and bass only through the explicit core-four scope after checking profile status. The installed other-refinement-v1 Studio challenger may then estimate one guitar target or disclosed piano-as-keys proxy from that exact grouped other while retaining the residual. Plan first, execute only with rights confirmation, and never select the parent or children automatically. Its completed five-song review demonstrated neither useful guitar nor successful piano extraction, so do not present that profile as a working capability. Later private, unregistered six-role research combined core four with separate synth and guitar specialists. Its completed three-song review found all 3/3 cases useful and non-catastrophic; synth and guitar were each useful in 2/2 confirmed-present cases, with some missing content reported for both. The immutable private outcome isprivate_full_song_six_role_listening_evidence_recorded_resource_gate_incomplete. It does not register either specialist or establish full objective or resource qualification, and there is no public six-role command, automatic source choice or activation. Do not upload audio or feedback. Reuse the existing GitHub form for text-only observations.
